Belton is a sprawling village, to the south west of Great Yarmouth with its own primary school, a few shops, a café and pubs, and home to Wild Duck Holiday Park. It’s predominantly 1970s in character, like its neighbour Bradwell, but also has newer and much older property. It has many desirable roads, like Sandy Lane (with no Norfolk beach at the end), Station Road South and North, as well as Stepshort, where this project took us. As the title tells you, it was a new build project – not an extension or conversion, but a brand new home from foundations up.

It sits off Stepshort, behind the village pond on the mini roundabout off a track leading to Fairview Farm.

What was lovely was the plans received consent, without objections and the owner will have a beautiful, bespoke property as home.

Wonderful home too; the ground floor footprint is expansive. The owner wanted a mix of living and sleeping accommodation here, with distinct separation between the two halves.

An entrance hall points left to kitchen, dining and living rooms, complete with vast windows for natural light; three bedrooms (the master with en-suite) are spliced by the staircase and a family bathroom.

Upstairs, there’s a vast bedroom with another ensuite, and to suit the working from home lifestyle many are now adopting, a home office is planned with its own en-suite shower room attached.

Unusual design, perhaps, but a home fit for 2020 and beyond.
